Charitable support at store level

UK Store collections

We have an agency called Arc who schedules the charity and food collection bookings for all of our UK Superstores and Extra stores between January and November each year.

To request a booking at your local Tesco store please complete our application form and send it to:  TescoCharityApplications@arcww.co.uk.

During December these stores manage their own collections.  Our Metro stores manage their own collections all year round.  We do not make any charity collection bookings at our Express stores.

To request a December booking please write to the Charity / Community Champion at your local store (Find your local store).

Bag Packing

Our stores manage their own bag packing bookings (excludes Express stores).  If you would like to arrange a session please write to the Charity / Community Champion at your local store (Find your local store).

Donations

Each Tesco UK store (excluding Express) holds a community donation budget to help local organisations with their fundraising events.  If you would like to be considered for a donation please write to the Charity/ Community Champion at your local store  (Find your local store) .

Please note, our stores receive a high volume of requests all year round and in order for them to support as many different groups as possible they may need to limit the amount that they are able to donate.

Our prime focus of activity is to provide donations and sponsorship direct to charities and organisations working with children’s education and welfare, elderly people and people with disabilities. Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor events or individuals, but please take a look at our criteria for grant funding through the Tesco Charity Trust

Community Champions

Tesco has Community Champions in a lot of their stores. Their role is to act as an ambassador for their store within the local area, being a great neighbour and bringing genuine benefit to the local community.

Help Feed People in Need

Tesco will be working with two charities, FareShare and Trussell Trust, for the Help Feed People in Need campaign that will take place in over 800 stores across the country on December 1st and 2nd and will help provide much needed food for hundreds of thousands of people this Christmas. Research has found that in total, around 10 per cent of people have suffered from some form of food poverty in the last 12 months, with seven per cent of people skipping meals and eight per cent relying on friends or family to provide food.

Thousands of Tesco staff members, together with FareShare and Trussell Trust volunteers and Tesco Retired Staff Association members will be on hand to help customers who will be given special shopping lists to encourage them to buy everyday food items like cereals, rice, instant coffee, tinned food and sauces. Collections will take place between 9am – 6pm in Tesco Extras, Superstores and selected Metros.

Tesco will top up all customer donations by 30%*

The top up is calculated using an average valuation of £1.68/kg for all food donated by you. This valuation is calculated by looking up the items that make up a standard food parcel (as handed out by the charity) and checking the prices of these items in Tesco’s standard own label range. The total weight of the box and total value of all the items inside are then used to reach the £1.68/kg valuation used. On the day of the collections, stores that have Trussell Trust foodbanks in will weigh all the food collected, calculate a total value (at £1.68/kg), of which 30% will be given by Tesco to The Trussell Trust (11105222). In stores that are collecting for FareShare, the food will be delivered back to FareShare’s local depots, where the food will be weighed. The total weight collected will be used to calculate a total value (based on the £1.68/kg valuation), of which 30% will be given by Tesco to FareShare (1100051).
