Charitable support at store level
Help Feed People in Need. Help build a stronger neighbourhood.
On the 5th and 6th of July we will be holding our second National Food Collection in partnership with food redistribution charity FareShare and foodbank charity The Trussell Trust. Over the two days all Tesco stores will be taking part in the collection, with store colleagues and volunteers from the two charities and the Tesco Retired Staff Association asking shoppers to donate an item of food from in store shopping lists, including items such as long life fruit juice, canned foods and breakfast cereals. Customers will be able to donate in our Express stores at specially installed collection points from the 10th June until 7th July. As we did in December, we e will be topping up all donations by 30%*.
Our first collection in December was a huge success. Together with our 30% top up, we collected enough food, to provide 2.4 million meals for those in need across the UK. Last year Trussell Trust foodbanks provided a three day emergency food parcel to over 350,000 people and FareShare provided food to over 900 community groups who feed over 43,000 people a day. The demand on their services is increasing so please join us this year and donate an item of food, and together we can help feed people in need and build a stronger communities across the UK.
* Tesco will top up all customer donations by 30%
The top up is calculated using an average valuation of £1.68/kg for all food donated by you. This valuation is calculated by looking up the items that make up a standard food parcel (as handed out by the charity) and checking the prices of these items in Tesco’s standard own label range. The total weight of the box and total value of all the items inside are then used to reach the £1.68/kg valuation used. On the day of the collections, stores that have Trussell Trust foodbanks in will weigh all the food collected, calculate a total value (at £1.68/kg), of which 30% will be given by Tesco to The Trussell Trust (11105222). In stores that are collecting for FareShare, the food will be delivered back to FareShare’s local depots, where the food will be weighed. The total weight collected will be used to calculate a total value (based on the £1.68/kg valuation), of which 30% will be given by Tesco to FareShare (1100051).

During December these stores manage their own collections. Our Metro stores manage their own collections all year round. We do not make any charity collection bookings at our Express stores.
To request a December booking please write to the Charity / Community Champion at your local store (Find your local store).
Bag Packing
Our stores manage their own bag packing bookings (excludes Express stores). If you would like to arrange a session please write to the Charity / Community Champion at your local store (Find your local store).
Donations
Each Tesco UK store (excluding Express) holds a community donation budget to help local organisations with their fundraising events. If you would like to be considered for a donation please write to the Charity/ Community Champion at your local store (Find your local store) .
Please note, our stores receive a high volume of requests all year round and in order for them to support as many different groups as possible they may need to limit the amount that they are able to donate.
Our prime focus of activity is to provide donations and sponsorship direct to charities and organisations working with children’s education and welfare, elderly people and people with disabilities. Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor events or individuals, but please take a look at our criteria for grant funding through the Tesco Charity Trust.
Community Champions
Tesco has Community Champions in a lot of their stores. Their role is to act as an ambassador for their store within the local area, being a great neighbour and bringing genuine benefit to the local community.
