Tesco teams up with DreamWorks studio in exclusive partnership
New Merry Madagascar DVD to go on sale at Tesco stores
Tesco has teamed up with DreamWorks studio for the exclusive rights to sell the brand new animated Madagascar Christmas film.
The film reunites Alex the lion and his Central Park Zoo friends, Marty, Melman and Gloria as they try to save Christmas in a fun packed film which is sure to be a Christmas favourite for all the family and will only be available to buy at Tesco stores. One million copies of the £5 DVD are expected to find there way into Christmas stockings this year.
DreamWorks is a major global studio who as well as Madagascar has been responsible for smash hit family favourites such as Shrek and Monsters vs Aliens.
Along with the film, Tesco will also be developing the license by offering customers a range of merchandise including cuddly toys, gift wrap and confectionary. And stores will have a Madagascar theme this Christmas with life size cut outs and point of sale in store.
Speaking in London at the first UK screening of the film, Rob Salter, Tesco Entertainment Director said; “This groundbreaking relationship with DreamWorks is a significant development for Tesco and the first of its kind for the industry. It demonstrates our commitment to bring customers the very best in entertainment.
“It is just the start of an exciting new era in home entertainment for us and will see further special DreamWorks films released exclusively during next year.”
Tesco customers will also see a host of new exclusive partnerships with film studios and authors.
Next month Tesco will be teaming up, with Cinema NX and the film ‘Me And Orson Welles’ starring Zac Efron from the Hollywood blockbuster, High Street Musical in a cross promotion which will mean that the DVD release of this film will be sold exclusively in Tesco stores and will be promoted when the film is shown in VUE cinemas.
Rob Salter continues; “Home entertainment is a big opportunity for Tesco both instore and online, we are working hard to develop ourselves as a multichannel retailer giving customers the option to buy instore, online or though our catalogue.
“We have just launched our new online one stop shop for entertainment allowing customers to buy DVDs, games and CDs, download music and film and keep up with all the latest entertainment news. The online store has a vast back catalogue with 1000's of physical entertainment products and over 5 million downloads. For the first time this site puts all the elements of our offer under one roof and we are excited about the potential for it to grow in the future.”
