Volunteer for our Christmas Food Collection

Every Christmas, FareShare join forces with Tesco and The Trussell Trust, to collect food for people in need.

Winter is coming and it is a particularly tough time for many on the margins of our society. That’s why two amazing charities are combining forces with Tesco, the biggest grocer in the land, to run the UK’s largest food drive from Thursday 29 November to Saturday 1 December. During these three days we will be asking Tesco shoppers to add an item to their shop to donate as they leave the stores. We are asking for food, not money.

We are asking for your help – not to buy something (although that would be very generous, thank you) but to volunteer in your local store. We know from experience that a few friendly faces handing out shopping lists, answering any questions, and, most importantly, taking receipt of the donations and saying thank you as shoppers leave can make a massive difference to the amount of food donated.

We often get whole families volunteering together, and being alongside the friendly colleagues at Tesco this is anything but a lonely few hours. It’s great fun, while doing great good. If you can spare at least three hours as November slides into December and the Christmas season gets going, then please check where we need volunteers close to you and sign up now if you can.

All of the food collected is given to the amazing charities and community groups providing a much-needed safety net through the next six months, and you can find out a lot more about them and the work of FareShare on our website. And don't forget, you can always check volunteering opportunities with The Trussell Trust too.
