Thousands of Tesco colleagues walk in relay from Land’s End to John O’Groats, raising funds and awareness for Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.

As thousands of you prepare to lace up your walking boots and take on the biggest and most ambitious fundraising event in Tesco’s history, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support. Every little really does help us in our fight against some of the biggest health concerns for the UK.

National Charity Partnership

Together we've raised more than £21m since our National Charity Partnership began in 2015. This money is being spent on helping people to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes and heart and circulatory disease. The money also helps fund medical research and is invested in supporting those already affected. Why? Because around 4.2 million people in the UK live with Type 2 diabetes and an estimated 7 million live with heart and circulatory disease. Millions more are at risk.

It’s likely you know someone affected by, or at risk of, one of these conditions.

Thanks to your enduring support, our health messages have reached millions of people in the UK over the last two years. Through our online and community programmes we have helped around one million people get more active, which is so important to staying healthy. We have also supported families to cook tens of thousands of nutritious meals from scratch, and to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Our online goal setting tools have so far enabled more than 40,000 people to make small, positive changes to their lifestyle that will make a big difference to their long-term health.

Diabetes UK

The money you are raising for our National Charity Partnership also helps our own respective charities to support those who need it and tackle these two serious conditions.

For example, at Diabetes UK, the money raised is enabling us to grow our network of volunteers, develop resources for schools to support young people with Type 1 diabetes and run our Helpline. Each of these services are vital to ensuring people with diabetes and their families have the support they need to manage the condition and live well.

British Heart Foundation

Heart and circulatory disease kills one person every three minutes in the UK. Improving the nation’s heart health is absolutely critical if we are to bring an end to the devastation these conditions bring. This is why the British Heart Foundation has, amongst other things, launched a community blood pressure testing project to make it easier to diagnose high blood pressure, a leading cause of stroke and a major risk factor for coronary heart disease – the UK’s single biggest killer. We’re also investing in research, which will help us understand more about risk factors associated with heart disease and how to prevent it.

Together, we are making a real difference to people’s lives. With your support, we can continue to build on our achievements and do even more.

Once again thank you so much.
