This can be done with Equiniti Limited at www.shareview.co.uk/dealing. If you would like a list of stockbrokers, either visit www.money.co.uk, or write to The Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers (APCIMS), 112 Middlesex Street, London, E1 1HY.
If you have recently sold your shares and receive a dividend which you are not sure you are entitled to, contact the agent who acted for you in the sale. Always keep the contract notes which are sent to you by the agent who buys or sells shares for you. If you sell any of your Tesco shares you may become liable to capital gains tax.

I haven't received my last dividend cheque, who do I need to contact?

I have found an out of date dividend cheque, what can I do?
You will need to contact Equiniti, who will inform you of the next steps. To contact Equiniti, please visit help.shareview.co.uk (from here, you can securely email Equiniti with your enquiry).
Can I have my Tesco dividends paid directly into my bank or building society account?
Yes you can. You will need to request a BACS dividend mandate form from Equiniti. To contact Equiniti, please visit help.shareview.co.uk (from here, you can securely email Equiniti with your enquiry).
Will I still receive notification of dividend payments if they are paid direct into my bank or building society account?
Yes, a dividend tax voucher will be sent to your registered address when the interim dividend is paid. This tax voucher covers the whole tax year.
Why is Tesco now chequeless?
Dividend payments are now paid directly to your bank or building society account, which is quicker and more secure. As a responsible business, Tesco is committed to reducing its carbon footprint across all business activities. The removal of issuing paper as a payment method, and transportation, will also help us to reduce the environmental impacts of our business and ensure dividend monies are paid into accounts on the dividend payment date. Removing cheques and going paperless will also have a significant impact on Tesco’s paper consumption, so we encourage all our shareholders to go completely electronic by registering with Equiniti’s Shareview portfolio. This will mean that your communication and quarterly statements will be received electronically.
If I don’t update my bank mandate what will happen to my dividend?
Your dividend will be retained by our Registrar, Equiniti, until you provide your bank or building society account. Your dividend will not accrue any interest whilst it is being held for you and Equiniti could charge a fee for the release of your dividend.
What if my bank account is an overseas account?
Equiniti offer an overseas payment service, where they can arrange for payments to be made in over 90 countries worldwide. The fee is usually less than paying a cheque in GBP.
How does being chequeless benefit me?
You will be receiving your dividend directly into your bank or building society account, which means you do not need to wait for a cheque to arrive. Neither will you have to travel to your bank or building society account to cash your cheque, the payment is instant!
How can I update my bank details?
Log into or register at www.shareview.co.uk to update your bank details. Shareview is a free, easy and secure service that enables you to manage your shareholding online. Alternatively, you can download and complete a bank mandate form here. You can contact Equiniti by visiting shareview.co.uk.
How can I have my dividends paid?
You have the option of:
- having them paid direct to your bank or building society account; or
- electing to use them to buy more Tesco shares via the Dividend Reinvestment plan.
Having your dividend paid directly into your bank or building society account through the BACS system means:
- fast and convenient payment;
- no more lost or stolen cheques;
- reduces the risk of fraud; and
- reduces the amount of paper we use.
You can quickly and easily update your dividend instruction by completing a bank mandate form.
Our Registrar, Equiniti Limited, will send you a dividend confirmation to confirm the amount and to which account it has been paid.
If you need to update your bank/building society account details, you can do so through your Shareview Portfolio at www.shareview.co.uk or, if you are a sole shareholder of 2,500 shares or less, you can update your bank/building society account details by contacting Equiniti.
If you are a non-UK shareholder you can sign up to Equiniti’s Overseas Payment Service. For more information please visit www.shareview.co.uk/info/ops.
We have now withdrawn cheques as a form of dividend payment. If you previously received dividends by cheque, please ensure that you provide your bank or building society account details to Equiniti, so that future dividend payments and any other money payable to you in connection with your shares can be made by direct payment.
Do I have to pay tax on my dividends?
The amount of tax you pay depends on your personal circumstances. You can earn some dividend income each year without paying tax. You do not pay tax on any dividend income that falls within your Personal Allowance (the amount of income you can earn each year without paying tax). You may also be entitled to a dividend allowance each year, whereby you only pay tax on any dividend income above the dividend allowance threshold. For more information on the current dividend allowance, please visit www.gov.uk/tax-on-dividends.
Any dividends re-invested in SIP Dividend Shares will not be subject to UK income tax if the SIP Dividend Shares are held in the SIP Trust for at least three years. You do not pay tax on dividends from shares in an ISA.
If you sell any of your shares at a profit, you may have to pay capital gains tax and should submit a self-assessment tax form.
What is the ex-dividend date?
We consult the London Stock Exchange Dividend Procedure Timetable to set the date on which shares are sold without entitlement to the next dividend payment. This is known as the ex-dividend date and is generally the business day preceding the record date. If you buy shares before the ex-dividend date, you are entitled to the most recently-announced dividend; if you buy after that date, the dividend is paid to the previous owner of the shares.
What is the record date?
A dividend is paid based on the number of shares held on the share register on a particular date, which is known as the record date. In accordance with the London Stock Exchange Dividend Procedure Timetable, the record date is currently one day after the ex-dividend date. If you receive a dividend and are not sure if you are entitled to it, you should contact the agent who sold your shares for you.
What is the Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP)?
We operate a Dividend Reinvestment Plan which allows you to reinvest your cash dividends in additional Tesco PLC shares.
If you would like to join or leave the DRIP please register through your Shareview Portfolio at www.shareview.co.uk or contact Equiniti by visiting help.shareview.co.uk.
When is the next Annual General Meeting?
All information about our Annual General Meeting can be found on our Shareholder Meetings page.
Why are you using electronic voting at the AGM?
This is now best practice and means that each vote represents the number of shares held. Voting online is quicker and more secure and reduces our environmental impact. This is also in line with market practice and other FTSE companies who have implemented this. Shareholders who want a paper copy of the proxy form can request one from the Registrar, Equiniti.
