Now customers can browse online while they shop

After lots of positive feedback and a successful trial in store, Tesco’s free Wi-Fi Service has been rolled out nationwide.

From Aberdeen to Bournemouth, customers shopping in any of Tesco’s Extra stores will now have free, unlimited access by signing up with their Clubcard number. Those who do not have a Clubcard are able to use the service for 15 minutes free every 24 hours.

So far, customers have been using it to read product reviews and compare prices while they shop. The Wi-Fi also allows users to access their Clubcard account online to check their points and receive e-vouchers.

Mike McNamara, Chief Information Officer at Tesco comments, “We’re proud to be the first UK Supermarket to offer nationwide access to free Wi-Fi. People are increasingly using a variety of digital services and we’re excited by our customers’ reaction to the new service.”

During a recent customer survey, 82% said they will definitely use the service again, while all found it “easy to use.” Other customers said it was “an excellent idea,”, “great service, thank-you”, “great for finding product locations in-store on the Tesco app.”

The survey revealed that 71% of customers access the Wi-Fi via smartphone, 11% via a tablet and 9% on a laptop.

The Wi-Fi solution is being provided by Telefónica UK, based on O2 Wifi’s technology platform.

How do I register?

It couldn’t be simpler to log onto the new service. When entering any Extra store, customers need to select “Tesco Wi-Fi” from the Wi-Fi menu on their device.

Once connected, an internet browser can be opened and will go to a Tesco landing page, where the customer will be asked to register by entering their Clubcard and postcode. On entering a valid Clubcard number, the customer is then directed to a welcome page where they can navigate to other sites.

For Clubcard registered customers, subsequent visits to any participating stores will not require further registration.
