Babs worked in advertising and design before joining the charitable sector. She commissioned, developed and evaluated campaigns and programmes for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Babs developed a patient-led online support service,, which won the Guardian Public Service Award for Innovation. Whilst working on the HIV Prevention England Campaign, Babs came up with the idea for National HIV Testing Week which has decreased the number of undiagnosed people with HIV in the UK.

Babs has authored original research papers published in medical journals, focusing on prevention.
