A healthier lifestyle by setting goals

Tesco is working with both the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK to encourage people to set achievable lifestyle goals to boost their health and wellbeing.

 

Being physically active and eating healthily can reduce the risk of developing heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. That’s why Tesco is working in partnership with both the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK to encourage people to set achievable lifestyle goals to boost their health and wellbeing.

Many years ago I trained people with long-term health conditions to do ‘action planning’. This means saying what you are going to do, how many times you are going to do it and when you are going to do it. Recording plans, telling other people and blocking time in a diary are all techniques that support people to achieve their goals.

When I came to work for Tesco’s National Charity Partnership I wanted to use these techniques to support people to be more active and eat better. This was the starting point for the Let’s Do This Goal Setter, developed collaboratively by the British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK and Tesco. The Let’s Do This Goal Setter is a free online tool that is easily accessible from a smartphone, tablet or computer. You can use it to set a goal to move more or eat better, schedule it into your diary, and get text reminders as well as tips and rewards.

Since the tool launched 11 weeks ago, 6,000 health goals have been set and we aim to help thousands of people set and achieve more in future.
