The first Rastamouse soft toy to go on sale is set to sell out in days as the cult children’s show proves just as popular with adults as with younger viewers.

The nine inch figure sings and speaks the most renowned phrases from the show and is expected to be snapped up by children, students and as a desk toy for office workers too.

Tesco will be selling the much-awaited toy exclusively following thousands of requests for Rastamouse merchandise on Facebook.

Rastamouse, which was launched by Cbeebies in January, was this year’s most popular new preschool TV show. The Rastafarian soundtrack and mix of rasta, patois and English language has wide appeal.

Skateboarding Rastamouse fights evil and “makes a bad ting good” in the twenty minutes shows, which also feature dance routines. He has also built up a cult following with students and performed at Glastonbury this year.

Tesco pre-school toy buyer Mark Whittle said: “Rastamouse is going to be the must-have toy this autumn.  The show has been one of the most successful BBC pre-school children’s programme launch since In The Night Garden. Rastamouse appeals to old and young alike thanks to the catchy lyrics and humorous storylines.  The toys will be like gold dust and we expect them to sell out in days.

The Rastamouse toys go on sale from next month.
