As the weather turns colder Tesco is helping customers find an economical solution to dealing with heating bills with the launch of a new boiler service. 

Shoppers will be able to choose Worcester Bosch boilers, the brand that came first in a Which? customer satisfaction survey of boiler, published in September. Tesco is running the service in conjuction with one of the country’s leading heating companies, Enact Energy.  

Tesco DIY buying manager, Fabio Perrotta, said: “Our new boiler service will help customers who are looking at ways to cut their energy bills.”

As well as installing boilers, the retailer will also be offering a service to upgrade existing boilers to high efficiency boilers. The service will initially be for mains gas customers, which make up 85 per cent of all heating systems. 

The boilers come with a five year parts and labour guarantee. Customers can choose from either a combi, which offers instant hot water, or a conventional boiler with a high pressure hot water cylinder option for more powerful showers. 

One of the benefits of the new service is that an indicative quote can be given over the phone. If the customer decides to get a boiler Tesco will send an estimator to survey the property and the written quote will be sent by post, thus avoiding the hard sell that customers often experience.  With many heating companies, quotes are only given in person.  

Prices for a fully installed new boiler start from £1,999 including VAT.  It is the aim of the service to provide an affordable alternative to other suppliers, including the largest providers of boilers.  

Tesco is also offering free loft insulation to a limited number of households until the end of January. Customers could save up to £175 a year on heating bills by having loft insulation installed. It will be offered on a first come first served basis, with the installation of a boiler.

Perrotta added: “Our offer of free insulation will further help to cut energy bills.  And of course, Clubcard points can be collected as part of the boiler installation.”
