Britons are embracing the Great British Summer with a staggering 58 per cent increase on bookings for days out this year.

New research for Tesco Bank Clubcard Credit Card has revealed that three quarters of British people are planning to make trips with their family to UK attractions this summer, with each family expected to go on at least four outings, making 2012 the year of the ‘staycation’.

And figures from Tesco Clubcard, which offers its 16 million active users discounts on tickets to attractions, shows that the top ten destinations are:

1.    Legoland

2.    Alton Towers

3.    Thorpe Park

4.    Longleat

5.    Drayton Manor

6.    Chessington World of Adventures

7.    Woburn Safari Park

8.    Blackpool Pleasure Beach

9.    Sea Life Centre

10.  Eden Project

The survey of Tesco shoppers revealed that 39% of customers plan to exchange their Clubcard reward vouchers to pay for their day-out. But families treating their kids to a fun day out admit they will try to find ways to cut back on unnecessary spending. More than two thirds of respondents said they always look for discount vouchers for day trips, 62% said they will take a packed lunch to help save money, and 43% will avoid buying treats from the gift shops because they are usually overpriced

David McCreadie, Managing Director, Banking at Tesco Bank commented:  “The Staycation is well and truly on the rise and we’re really pleased that we can help make family treats more affordable this summer by giving customers Clubcard points every time they make a purchase with the Clubcard Credit card.”

Even the unpredictable British weather isn’t putting the nation off days out, with nearly 73 per cent planning a trip to the beach, followed closely by 70 per cent expected to visit to zoos and animal parks.  And for 63 per cent of the UK population, thrill-seeking tops the agenda as a visit to a theme park is their priority this summer.

The findings also reveal that a third of families are prepared to travel up to 50 miles to their chosen destination.

Ian Simkins, Clubcard Rewards Director for Tesco said:  “Our customers know they’re getting a great deal on days out this summer, as Clubcard points can be exchanged for up to four times their face value on a fantastic range of days out. For example, Clubcard members can buy a day pass for Legoland with vouchers worth £11.50, compared to a normal cost of £44.20”
