Our quality standards testing regime: update 2017

During the second half of 2016/2017, 480 DNA tests were conducted on meat products. In one of these products we detected a very low level of chicken (1.29%) in a ham hock terrine. Our investigation showed this was due to chicken liver parfait being produced on the production line before the ham hock terrine. We have worked with our supplier to improve procedures to make sure this doesn’t happen again. This brings the total number of test results we have published since January 2013, to 9383.

The work, carried out by our Quality Standards Team, demonstrates our continued commitment to work collaboratively with our suppliers to deliver products of the very highest standards for customers. Our food DNA testing programme is one of the most rigorous in the retail industry and, combined with our world class traceability and high technical standards, customers can be confident of the quality and safety of the food we sell in our stores.
