Many readers will need no introduction to the NRF Big Show, the annual gathering of the retail technology world which takes place in New York every January. Having attended for a decade, I consider myself something of an NRF veteran – as Tesco Chief Information Officer, it’s an invaluable way to meet all my suppliers in the space of two days, and this year’s show felt to me like the biggest and busiest yet.
The Innovation Team at Tesco never stops thinking about how we can use technology to help our colleagues and customers. When the right technology is applied in the right way, it can change the way we work and the way we shop - it wasn’t so long ago that our colleagues were punching prices into tills and using pricing guns to label every product. Today we scan barcodes, making the checkout process much faster and saving customer’s precious time.
One of the great things about my job is that I get to work with lots of creative people to figure out how we can use technology to make shopping trips of the future easier, quicker and more enjoyable.
