I joined Tesco as a bakery manager, when I was 21 years old. My career has taken me as far as China, given me the opportunity to manage our UK stores, oversee our internet retailing strategy and lead our business in Central Europe and Turkey, which is my current role. I have seen first-hand what type of opportunities Tesco can provide young people, as they make their first tentative step onto the career ladder.
In my role I look after our businesses in Central Europe and as you’d expect each country has a distinct culture and identity. We reflect this in the way that we run each business – from the look and feel of the store and the services we offer, to the products we sell. Christmas is a great example of this diversity and in our stores in the run up to Christmas they reflect the customs and traditions in each country and the different ways that families come together to celebrate.
Earlier this year I began a new role as Managing Director of Central Europe and Turkey. In the short film above I explain a little about my first impressions of the businesses, how we plan to grow in the region given the tough economic climate and a little about the many opportunities there.
