As seasonal as the sales, the flurry of Christmas trading statements is well underway and we have reported our sales update this morning, which you can read online here. Standing back from the headlines, this year more than any other there are two clear trends for the industry.
We really like working with the Tata Group in India. Back in 2008 we signed wholesale and franchise agreements with them, and today we supply around 80% of the goods in Tata’s 16 Star Bazaar and Star Daily stores in Southern and Western India, as well as sharing our technical knowhow with their team.

When the right technology is applied in the right way, it can change the way we work and the way we shop - it wasn’t so long ago that our colleagues were punching prices into tills and using pricing guns to label every product. Today we scan barcodes, making the checkout process much faster and saving customer’s precious time.
Having enjoyed a long stretch of hot sunny weather, fresh food has perhaps been even more front of mind for our customers this week - there’s nothing like biting into a fresh juicy piece of fruit on a hot sunny day or enjoying a fresh, cool salad on a balmy summer evening.
