Using Clubcard, we can keep a running total of a Clubcard customer’s spending with Tesco every month and each time they reach a cumulative £50 mark, we will reward them with 2p off a litre of fuel. Whether they spend £20 online, £20 in a big store a few days later and then £10 in a convenience store, the amounts add up and provided they use their Clubcard, we will credit them with 2p off every litre to spend when they want to.
Twelve months ago I sat in the audience of the National Farmers Union annual conference as Philip Clarke set out a number of bold and ambitious commitments to rebuild trust in Tesco’s food. Last week I returned to the same conference, for the first time in 11 years as a Tesco colleague, to champion the progress that we have made as a business and to explain once again the journey that we are on.
There is an old Thai saying: Nai Nam Mee Pla Nai Na Mee Khao – There are fish in the waters, there is rice in the fields. Thailand has always been a land of plenty. Fertile soils and a tropical climate means that it can grow amazing produce, and livestock thrives here. It’s the world’s sixth largest rice exporter, the third largest fisheries exporter and the second largest sugar exporter. Not bad for the world’s 51st largest country by land mass.
