Tesco is helping to support a pioneering campaign to stop the devastating impact Type 2 diabetes could have on millions of lives across the UK.
The campaign, being run by Diabetes UK, is the biggest of its kind in the UK and uses a range of external communications and advertising to highlight the serious risk factors of Type 2 diabetes - including waist size, ethnicity and family history - and to encourage customers and colleagues alike to take a simple risk assessment.
The aim is to target the seven million people at high risk of Type 2 diabetes and help them to take action to reduce their risk where possible. The campaign also seeks to identify some of the estimated 850,000 people in the UK who are living with undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition which, if left unchecked, can cause devastating complications such as heart attacks, blindness, strokes or even limb amputation.
To raise awareness, our stores will display information booklets, print messages on ATM receipts, show videos on TV walls and advertise the campaign in car parks for two weeks from 23rd September.
The campaign will run nationally on buses and taxis, in London Underground carriages and on Tyne and Wear Metro trains. It will be supported by adverts online and on radio stations in England, Northern Ireland,Scotland and Wales and posters in shopping and on high streets across the UK.
To find out more or to see if you are at risk, you can take an online risk assessment at www.diabetes.org.uk/risk or go to your local Tesco Pharmacy.
