Tesco Malaysia has exceeded its target of collecting 100,000kg of food for charity as part of its ‘Kasih Ramadan 2014 - Help Feed People In Need’ programme.

The collections were held at all 49 of our stores in Malaysia during two and half weeks in Ramadan and were made possible with the help of over 200 volunteers from 22 different countries.

46 charitable organisations registered with Malaysia’s Social Welfare Department will benefit from our customers’ generosity, including orphans, senior citizens, people with disabilities, women with mental illness and others in need of food especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking at the start of the programme Georg Fischer, CEO of Tesco Malaysia, said:

"We believe in using our scale for good by making a difference in people's lives every day. We aim to create tangible contributions and add value for our communities as a caring corporate citizen and we look forward to the great support from the communities we operate in."

Tesco Malaysia gave the collections a head-start with donations worth RM50,000 (Malaysian Ranggit); the total collections are estimated to have a value over RM522,000.
