The Diabetes Big Collection
11 Jul 2014
Find out how our colleagues supported Diabetes Week and helped to raise over £216,000.
National Diabetes Week took place across the UK between 9 and 15 June and many of our colleagues were rolling up their sleeves to get involved.
Together with our national charity partner Diabetes UK we completed an incredible 40,000 Type 2 risk assessments online and in our stores.
We also hosted the Big Collection in 300 of our stores. With help from 3,000 Diabetes UK volunteers we raised over £216,000 for Diabetes UK in one weekend!
Volunteers included members of the Tesco Alumni network, which was set up for our senior retired colleagues to stay in touch. The Alumni often support events and projets in their local communities and with over 11,000 years of experience between them, their help ensures that valuable skills and expertise are not forgotten.
We recently announced that we are extending our partnership with Diabetes UK and have set a target to raise a further £6 million by the end of December 2014. This will bring our fundraising total for the partnership to £18 million!
A big thank you to everyone who took part in Diabetes Week and who helped to make the Big Collection so successful.
