Cedric the Bear raising funds for Children’s Hospital in Ireland
1 February 2019
Tesco Ireland’s Charity Partner Programme gives colleagues and customers a chance to support a cause that is close to their hearts.
Since October 2014, Tesco Ireland has supported Temple Street Children’s University Hospital as their charity partner. Tesco colleagues have helped raise over €4 million euro for the hospital so far in a series of fundraising events such as the Great Irish Bake, festive fun days and sales of Cedric the Bear.
Inspired by the true story of a teddy bear being lost in a Tesco store and becoming a Service Superstar, Cedric has captured the hearts and minds of the nation. Customers and colleagues have all been seeking a Cedric of their own, so we gave them the opportunity to purchase a bear, with proceeds going towards the €4million target for the children’s hospital.
Cedric was brought to life with the help of five-year-old Temple Street hospital patient Lewis Evans from County Donegal. Lewis took part in a Tesco colouring competition during a visit to the hospital and won the honour of naming this very special bear.
Speaking on behalf of Tesco Ireland, Marketing Director Ruairí Twomey said: “At Tesco, we receive thousands of amazing comments from customers about the everyday little helps and great service they receive from our colleagues.
“Cedric’s story is one of these fantastic examples of a colleague who went above and beyond to ensure a teddy bear was returned home safely – it even inspired our latest TV advert. We are so proud to have raised €4 million and counting for our charity partner Temple Street Hospital.”
