Helping to donate one million meals to front line NHS workers
6 April 2020
Over the last few weeks we’ve been doing everything we can to feed the nation during this unprecedented time, and have been working around the clock to help ensure families have access to the shopping items they need.
We’re now really pleased to help front line NHS workers as well, by donating food and ingredients to provide them with one million nutritional meals through SalutetheNHS. The free food deliveries will start on Monday 6 April at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, following with deliveries to Great Ormond Street, the London children’s hospital, and from there the programme will roll out to Government targeted locations across the country.
The meals, using food and ingredients provided by Tesco, will be prepared by Absolute Taste and comprise of a series of ‘Boost Packs’. They are intended for critical frontline NHS staff to eat either during their shift or to take home at the end of a long day. There are also 'Home Packs', which will be delivered to vital NHS frontline staff who are infected and self-isolating at home. Example meals include Keralan veggie curry with wholegrain rice and lean beef chilli with veggie rice.
SalutetheNHS is backed by the Government and NHS Charities, and has been formed by Ron Dennis CBE. More information can be found at www.salutetheNHS.org.
