Incentivising customers in Thailand to reuse shopping bags

We know that packaging is an issue that our customers feel strongly about. We take the sustainability of our products and packaging extremely seriously and always consider the impact of our business on the environment.
At Tesco Lotus Thailand, customers are being incentivised to decline single-use plastic bags when at the checkout, in return for green points. The points can be redeemed for discounts and other benefits such as airline miles and free mobile data usage.
In addition, customers also have the opportunity to purchase new eco shopping bags made from durable and reusable cloth. Until the end of February 2019 customers will be provided with an instant discount of 1 baht for every transaction when using their eco bags, in addition to their green points. The eco bags are available in all hypermarkets in a variety of designs. We hope this initiative will encourage customers to reduce the number of new, single-use plastic bags they use.
