Launching the new Wellbeing in Retail guide on World Mental Health Day.

At Tesco we are committed to reducing the stigma and building understanding around mental health. This helps us build a culture where we can be open and supportive of each other.

Mental well-being is just as important to our colleagues as physical wellbeing. In May 2016, we signed the Employer Pledge, created by social movement Time to Change, to show our commitment to change how we think and act about mental health in the workplace. Tony Hoggett, our Chief Operations Officer, is our Executive Mental Health Ambassador.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re launching the new Wellbeing in Retail guide, developed with the Samaritans and 6 other retailers.

This online guide will help colleagues to be more aware of their own mental wellbeing, build confidence in having conversations, or to just listen. It provides advice on how to support others who might be struggling and signposts where to go for extra help. It also features practical information, suggestions, activities and resources, such as “take a breather”, and the Samaritans’ “listening wheel”, to help improve listening skills and encouraging others to open up to each other.
