Tesco supports the Cocoa & Forests Initiative
18 April 2019
At Tesco, we want to reassure our customers that we’re using only the best quality ingredients in our own brand products, and that we are helping to protect the environment and wellbeing of the farmers we work with.
Since 2015, we have been members of the World Cocoa Foundation. This multi-stakeholder industry platform seeks to create a sustainable and profitable cocoa economy that improves the lives of cocoa producers and their families.
The World Cocoa Foundation has also helped to convene a new partnership called the Cocoa & Forests Initiative (CFI) and in 2017 Tesco signed the Cocoa and Forests Initiative statement of support. The CFI brings together key private and public sector players to end deforestation and forest degradation in the cocoa sector.
In 2019 we recommitted to the CFI and jointly created the Retailer Action Plan. Part of the action plan recognises that the most effective role retailers can play in supporting the Cocoa & Forests Initiative is through engagement with our traders. As a result, Tesco led the establishment of the Retailer Cocoa Collaboration (RCC). Through the RCC we will meet the commitment of the Retailer Action Plan and work together to reduce the risk of deforestation occurring in our cocoa supply chains.
