Supporting local communities in Poland through our ‘You Choose, We Help’ programme
28 January 2020
We want to make a positive difference to the thousands of communities we are part of around the world. One of the ways we do this is through our award-winning ‘You Choose, We Help’ programme, putting the power in the hands of our customers to choose which local projects Tesco supports financially in Central Europe.
Our CSR Manager in Poland, Kasia Bak, tells us a little bit about how the latest round of voting went in Poland.
“In Tesco Poland, the sixth edition of our ‘You Choose, We Help’ programme has seen over 5.25 million votes for 375 nominated projects. The programme, which has been running for over three years, enables customers to vote for local projects such as older people’s charities, local schools and animal welfare organisations, that benefit their community to receive a grant from Tesco to support their work.
“Grants of 1,000, 3,000 or 5,000 PLN (over £200, £600 and £1,000, respectively) are awarded to 375 winners of each region of Poland. As part of the sixth round of the programme, five additional grants of 2,000 PLN (£400) have been allocated for winners of a competition, which involved organisations actively using social media to promote their cause and encourage people to vote for them in the ‘You Choose, We Help’ programme and seeking support from the local media.”
To date, 1,565 community groups have received grants to support their work.
One organisation benefitting from the programme is Racibórz-based The Artistic and Social Association ‘Workshop of the Future’, with the group preparing a project titled ‘I edition of the Raciborzanin festival’.
Aneta Jurczyk, from The Artistic and Social Association, said:
"Since our launch in 2017, we have been constantly looking for various financing options for the residents of Racibórz. Winning grants in the sixth edition of ‘You Choose, We Help’ has enabled us to organise the festival at the Piast Castle, allowing us to expand the cultural offering for residents and give them a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends in the open air for free."
